Manchester City and England winger Lauren Hemp has been awarded an MBE in the King’s New Years Honours List for 2023. The Lioness has been in incredible form for both club and country and her work sees her honoured for her achievements in Women’s football.
The women’s game has come on in leaps and bounds in recent years, and Hemp has been at the forefront, being named the PFA Women’s Young Player of the Year on four occasions, and earning her spot in the PFA WSL Team of the Year two seasons in succession.
Hempo has also been a key figure for the national side, particularly during the successful 2022 UEFA European Championship campaign and a FIFA Women’s World Cup runners-up medal in 2023.
At City, Hemp has won made over 140 appearances, scoring 59 goals and being a key factor in City’s continued battle for major honours, winning the FA Cup in 2019 and Conti Cup in 2022.
Speaking upon hearing of the honour, Hemp said “I’m feeling very privileged and honoured to receive such a prestigious honour. It’s a huge achievement not only for me, but my family and everyone who loves our beautiful game. It’s been an incredible few years.
“I’d like to dedicate my MBE to everyone that has supported me in my career so far, and everyone behind the scenes for continuing to push boundaries to get women’s football to where it is today.”
