Well that was a disappointing end but at least Father Ruben won his award.
We’ll no doubt have an in-depth look at the Champions League draw soon, but that’s the end of our live blog.
Thanks for joining me
No he can’t. Jorginho takes the award!
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
Men’s player of the year coming up. Can Kev beat Kante and Jorginho?
Guardiola loses out to Tuchel again as the Uefa coach of the year.
We’ve got on get one over on them this season...
Chelsea’s Emma Hayes misses out on Women’s coach of the year
So what do you think of that?
To recap, City now face PSG, Leipzig and Club Brugge. France, Germany and Belgium await.
Get your passports out blues
We’re off to Belgium, home of Kompany, de Bruyne and Stella!!!
Earlier, United were drawn against Atalanta and Young Boys...
CLUB BRUGGE
Pot 4 about to be drawn. Then I might be able to take a toilet break...
Future blue Erling Haaland wins the CL forward award
IVANOVIC BLINKS!!!!
It’s happened, his eyes gave way. Whether that was programmed into him or not is unknown...
No Champions League campaign is complete without a trip to Germany and we’re facing RB Leipzig
LEIPZIG
WHAT??????
Shakhtar in Group D? Noooooooo
Gonna miss you guys
Okay pot 3 on the way after that. Let’s see who is facing the oil clubs...
Midfielder of the season is...
Kante???
Seriously? Okay then...
Haha, United got Villarreal. Sorry, not important but funny
Robot Ivanovic still being very robotty. I don’t think he’s blinked since he got on stage
Messi, Neymar and co once again in Manchester. What do you think to that?
Okay, back to the draw and which big gun are we going to get...
Remember, we can’t get United or Liverpool...
And it’s
PSG
Dias beat Chelsea’s Azpilicueta, Ruben Dias, Rudiger to the Champions League defender of the season award.
What a signing he has been
Okay, here’s the defender of the season.
FATHER RUBEN
Dias takes the award
Branislav Ivanovic picking out the teams. Wonder if he could find a personality in one of the pots...
OK, here we go with Pot 1 teams. Nothing too exciting, just to decide what group we go into and it’s...
Group A
We were first out too.
11 wins from 13 matches last season, another record for us
The explanation of the group stage sounds like an episode of Sesame Street. For you youngsters, that was a kids show from years ago. Is it still going?
Ok here’s the group stage draw. Probably after another speech no doubt...
Ederson misses out on the goalkeeper award, Edouard Mendy of Chelsea takes the prize.
Okay, thought the draw was happening now, but no. It’s another speech
City players up for an award this evening are Ederson, Ruben Dias, Kevin de Bruyne with Guardiola up for the manager’s award.
No City representatives in the women’s game sadly. They’ll put that right next season
More about Chelsea now. Okay we get it, they won it. Please stop, it hurts too much
Lost sound for a while, and when it came back, an awards ceremony is taking place. I’m sure one has been given to Frederick Flintstone. Surely not.
A bit more on that Benjamin Mendy story, the defender has been charged with four counts of rape and one sexual assault, according to the BBC.
Truly horrifying.
They just had to show it didn’t they?
As well as the draw, UEFA will be handing out awards in the men’s and women’s game. We’ll bring you details of that as it happens.
Uefa president commemorating the actions taken in relation to Christian Eriksen at the Euros. Well deserved awards for the people who saved his life.
Off and running with the highlights from last year’s competition.
No UEFA, no one want’s to see the goal in the final
A bit of news coming from the club that Benjamin Mendy has been suspended pending a police investigation. We don’t want to even speculate what that’s about, and I was considering making a quip about him not playing in the team.
However after reading some rumours on social media, I don’t think that would be appropriate
The draw is due at 5pm BST, but don’t expect this to be finished within 15 minutes. There’s the usual speeches, introduction and interview of former players, pointless videos, boring people talking rubbish until they finally get to the draw.
Aren’t you glad you’re reading it on here and not watching it? The things I put myself through for you guys...
Pot 4 sees a team that knocked us out or Europe a few years ago and an unknowns quantity from Moldova
Dynamo Kyiv put us out of the Europa League in 2011, however we got revenge for that when we beat them in the Champions League in 2016.
Kevin de Bruyne’s could face his old club Wolfsburg, while AC Milan are the biggest name in the pot. Turkish side Besiktas, Belgium’s Club Brugge, Malmo from Sweden and Switzerland’s Young Boys also feature.
FC Sheriff Tiraspol from Moldova could prove tricky for however gets drawn against them.
There’s only one team that the blues will face in pot 3. It is almost inevitable that City will face Shakhtar Donetsk. The two met in three consecutive seasons between 2017 and 2019, and even the club’s Twitter account is expecting us to be paired with them again.
Do we even need to mention the other teams? Might as well in the unlikely event we get someone else.
Portugal are represented by Porto and Benfica in pot 3, with Dutch side Ajax, German club RB Leipzig, Austria’s Salzburg, Zenit St Petersburg and last season’s debutants Atalanta could all face the blues.
But we know they won’t!
So who can City potentially face?
Well pot 2 is a minefield and the blues will have to be at their best if they are to top the group.
There’s the triple Spanish threat of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Sevilla, Erling Haaland’s Borussia Dortmund and PSG, both of whom City beat on the way to Porto last season, are also in pot 2, as are Juventus, which will make in interesting clash should Cristiano Ronald make the move from Turin to Manchester.
United and Liverpool make up the numbers in pot 2, but City cannot face either of those two.
Being champions means City will be in pot 1, meaning they cannot be drawn against any other league champions from the ‘top’ countries in Europe. They therefore avoid the likes of Spanish champions Atletico Madrid, Italian side Inter Milan, French champions Lille, old favourites Bayern Munich, as well as Sporting Lisbon and Europa League winners Villarreal. Holders Chelsea (it hurt to say that), will also be in pot 1
Welcome to our live blog as we bring you all the latest information as the draw for the group stage of the Champions League takes place.
Last season, City came within 90 minutes of winning the competition as they reached their first ever final, and Pep Guardiola will be hoping his side go on better this time around.
Who will City get? Stay tuned to find out
