Former United star Cristiano Ronaldo has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City before the transfer window closes on 31st August.

The Portugal star has been rumoured as trying to engineer a swap deal, possibly involving Bernardo Silva and Aymeric Laporte in order to make the move from Juventus to the Etihad Stadium. With City unprepared to pay for the 36 year old, a player exchange may be the only way a potential deal could happen.

But opinions are mixed with the rumours, with social media split over the possible signing of the man who spent 6 years at Old Trafford and was sent off twice in Manchester derbies. The first for kicking Andy Cole in January 2006 as City beat the reds 3-1, while the second came when he handled a United corner after previously being booked for a foul on Shaun Wright-Phillips.

In addition, the winger was cited by the British media for getting his United team mate Wayne Rooney sent off at the 2006 World Cup. Rooney had appeared to stamp on Portugal’s Ricardo Carvalho, and the media blamed excessive complaining by Ronaldo was the reason for Rooney’s red card. The accusations were not helped by Ronaldo appearing to wink at the Portugal bench following Rooney’s dismissal.

Ronaldo is still a talented footballer, but is he the type of player we need at City? Let us know your thoughts in the poll below:
