Manchester City put in an exceptional performance on Saturday to welcome Norwich City back to the Premier League in ruthless fashions.
The Canaries barely got out of their own half as City looked to put the misery of last weekend’s defeat behind them, and they did so in style, with Gabriel Jesus stealing the limelight from new boy Jack Grealish.
So who did the boys in blue measure up this week?
Ederson - 7
Not an awful lot to do as his defenders marshalled the back line, but when he was called into action, he was effective and dealt with any issues.
Walker – 9
Outstanding in defence and even more effective going forward. His ball releasing Jesus to set up Sterling was like de Bruyne had taken over his body.
Cancelo - 8
Strong and solid at the back, much different to last week when Mendy was in that position. Must surely start ahead of the French international going forward.
Dias – 8
In fairness, the Portugal international was never really going to be tested by the Norwich frontline but was still effective at the back. His ball forward for Mahrez to score was something else.
Laporte - 8
Solid performance by the defender, capped with a well-taken goal. Partnered Dias well and also wasn’t really tested our troubled.
Rodri – 7
Nice controlled performance from the Spaniard, and is starting now to look like Fernandinho’s replacement.
Gundogan – 7
Was all over the place and a constant threat in midfield. Made sure he was in attack and in the vital places when he needed to be.
Silva – 8
Another who seemed to pop up everywhere. Was unlucky when deemed to have committed a foul for the disallowed goal, but a reminder to Pep about what he can offer.
Gabriel Jesus – 9
A goal for the Brazilian would have capped an excellent performance, and crucially wasn’t caught offside. Created three goals (credited with two) and Jesus now has the opportunity to make the right wing position his own.
Ferran Torres - 8
Was a menace to the Norwich defence and was unlucky to have a goal chalked off. It was an excellent finish too.
Jack Grealish – 8
A goal on his home debut and made some good runs on the left wing. City fans have really taken to him and he’s already repaying them. Looks like the £100m price tag isn’t going to affect him.
Raheem Sterling – 6
Good to see Sterling amongst the goals, will need to rediscover his incredible Euro 2020 form to give Guardiola a favourable selection headache.
Cole Palmer – 6
A good welcome from the faithful when Palmer entered the field and showed some good touches on the ball. Looks like another alternative down that left side. Couple of dangerous crosses too.
Riyad Mahrez – 7
Always a threat whenever he’s on the pitch, Mahrez took just 9 minutes to score, and it was a well taken goal from an excellent ball from Dias to release him.
