Manchester City Women defender Lucy Bronze will almost certainly miss the start of the season through injury. The defender has undergone knee surgery following her return to the UK after representing Team GB at the Tokyo Olympics.

In an Instagram post. Bronze said she has been ‘managing a lot of pain of the past season,’ before adding “This week I had a very successful planned knee surgery. Everything went well and the focus is now on a healthy recovery.”

The defender rejoined City last season after spending three season at Olympique Lyonnais. She made 28 appearance for the girls in blue last season and was named Fifa best women’s player.

As well as missing the opening match against Everton, Bronze will also miss the club’s Champions League match which is scheduled for 31st August and 1st September. City will enter the competition at round 2 stage, which 12 teams will complete the group stage.

The draw for the second round will take place on Sunday 22nd August at 1300 CET.

We wish Lucy well in her recovery from injury and hope to see her back on the pitch soon.
