Manchester City Women have signalled their title intentions by by signing Barcelona midfielder Vicky Losada.
The blues missed out on the WSL title by just two points last season, saw American duo Sam Mewis and Rose Lavelle returned to the States after spending a season with the blues, and have been rumoured since the end of the season to be interested in Losada.
The Catalan star has previously had a spell at WSL rivals Arsenal between 2015 and 2016, and captained Baca to a historic treble last season. She was also part of the team that knocked City out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage last season.
After signing on the dotted line, Losada expressed her delight at joining the blues. “I’m so excited for next season and to have been able to join one of the best clubs in the world. As soon as I had the offer from Manchester City, I didn’t have any doubts about it - I knew that it was time to leave Barcelona and close that chapter of my career after one of the best years of my life.
“I’ve always said that I missed the English league – I feel like it brings out the best in me as a player. I am so excited to return to it now and be a part of this fantastic football club. I went back to Spain because Barcelona is home to me. But especially after playing against Manchester City last season, they showed good football. I like their style.
“They have really good players that I have known for years and it’s a massive club. I can’t ask for anything else to be honest, I am so happy.”
Manager Gareth Taylor also expressed his delight at signing Losada. “We’re delighted to welcome Vicky to Manchester City. She is a player who has enjoyed an incredible level of success throughout her career so far and we’re thrilled to have brought someone of her calibre to the Club.”
Losada has signed a 2 year contract with the blues, and brings a wealth of experience, along with the winning mentality that will boost the blues and hopefully send them to their second WSL title.
Welcome to Manchester Vicky.
