An Olympic round up as the USWNT and the Canadian teams were in action.
Janine Beckie and Abby Dahlkemper were left wanting more on the opening day of Olympic action.
Canada surrendered a lead late on to draw with tournament hosts Japan, while the USA suffered a shock 3-0 defeat to Sweden.
Dahlkemper’s United States suffered a heavy defeat in Group G. A decently shocking score as the USA was dominated by a very game Swedes.
A brace from Stina Blackstenius and a Lina Hurtig header handed 2016 silver medalists Sweden victory, ending the World Cup winners’ 44-game(!) unbeaten run.
The USA face New Zealand in Matchday Two on Saturday 24 July at 12:30 UK time.
While Canada tried and Beckie, playing as a winger, thought she had doubled the advantage from close range but was hit by the offside flag.
