The draw has been made for the under-21s Papa John’s trophy and Premier League Champions Manchester City are in Group E alongside Rotherham United, Doncaster Rovers, and Scunthorpe United. In the 20/21 season, our under-21s won the group (containing Scunthorpe United, Lincoln City and Mansfield Town). Despite topping the group, the Blues did not make it past the second round, being knocked out by the eventual runners-up Tranmere Rovers 2-1.

The draw contains 16 groups, split up into Northern (8 groups) and Southern (8 groups) to reduce travel time. 16 of the 48 teams in the competition are the under-21s of Premier League teams.
