Manchester City first team plan for Yan Couto could be derailed.

Specifically, the plans for Yan Couto to join up with Manchester City this summer after an impressive loan spell with Girona look like falling foul of work permit rules.

The rules are notoriously strict and given he has made few appearances for either his club in Brazil or for his National team, it makes things very complicated.

Couto turned down Barcelona, Bayern Munich and a couple of other for the chance to work with Pep Guardiola. It would be a shame if his inclusion to the first team is derailed another year.

Couto played exceptionally well for Girona in the Spanish second division. He laso was coming off a great time with the Brazil under-17 side who beat Mexico to be crowned world champions in the division.

City need to somehow get this rectified, a permit would allow a quality fullback to join City immediately. It will all most likely hinge on the court’s appraisal of the second division of Spain to whether he gets it or not.

We’ll wait and see.
