Raheem Sterling scored the only goal of the game as England beat the Czech Republic to qualify for the last 16 of EURO 2020 as Group D winners. A great win for the three lions.
The Manchester City superstar headed home Jack Grealish’s nails cross from close range in the 12th minute to ultimately decide a very close contest with his second goal of the tournament.
John Stones and Kyle Walker both started alongside Sterling at Wembley Stadium, but Phil Foden was left out of the squad to avoid picking up a booking that would have meant he missed the first game of the knockout stage.
Sterling spoke after the match of the importance of finishing first and more-
“The most important thing was to win the group,” he said.
“It is tournament football and it will be difficult but we need to do what we are doing.
“At some point you have to face the best teams. It is about challenging yourselves.”
“I think there are positives from the game,” he added.
“We kept the ball better today. It gave us more attacking options. We got in the gaps really well, played some good football and got the goal we needed.
“Jack and Bukayo got in the pockets really well, turned and were positive. It is brilliant to have these players around you who can create goals.
“Different players are needed for different games and those two that came in were massive and did what they needed to do.”
Well done and good luck in the next round!
