Reports have circulated that Manchester City’s Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho has signed a new one-year contract, keeping him at the club until next summer, according to the Daily Mail,

The midfielder, who joined the blues from Shahktar Donetsk in 2013, was rumoured to be following Sergio Aguero out of The Etihad and was named on City’s draft list of players to be released by the club, which was submitted to the Premier League last month.

However, City have until the end of the month to submit their final list and it is looking like Ferna’s name could be removed. If the rumours are true, it will mean a ninth season in sky blue for the Brazilian, who has club captain lifted City’s the Premier fifth Premier League trophy in May.

Ferna made 21 Premier League appearances for City last season, with 9 of those coming on a substitute.

There has been no confirmation by the club, however it is expected that the blues will make the announcement prior to City returning to training.
