Eleven Manchester City Players named in Women’s Team GB Olympic Squad

They will represent team GB in Tokyo

The team GB squad at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics consists of 18 women and City make up the majority with 11 players making the cut. The English players that have made manager Hege Riise’s squad are Ellie Roebuck, Lucy Bronze, Stephanie Houghton, Demi Stokes, Georgia Stanway, Kiera Walsh, Lauren Hemp, and Ellen White. Scottish national player Caroline Weir has also made the squad with City loanees Jill Scott and Karen Bardsley have also been selected.

Unfortunately, Chloe Kelly will not be traveling due to her recent right ACL injury sustained against Birmingham earlier this month, leaving her with a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

City’s head coach Gareth Taylor said: “To have eleven players in such a small squad speaks volumes about the quality and talent that these girls have – there is a great blend of youth and experience in there too.

“Everyone at Manchester City will be cheering them on this summer.”

The tournament begins with three group stage matches against Chile (July 21st), Japan (July 24th), and Canada (July 27th), with the quarter-finals on July 30th, semi-finals on August 2nd, and the Final on August 6th.
