Manchester have opened talks with Benfica of Portugal for Alejandro Grimaldo. That according to latest reports from Record in Portugal.
The fullback actually does fit the City mold as a great passer and crosser. He also lacks elite defending like many of City’s fullbacks.
Similar to Nuno Mendes, who was linked last week, Grimaldo is also subject to a substantial release clause believed to be €60 million.
That makes this move unlikely in my mind. While a fun player and he does have that flair similar to Joao Cancelo, I don’t see City spending this much for him or any fullback for that matter.
These are hard times and City will not want to over extend themselves and spend recklessly. That’s why the move for an elite striker and then a couple smaller complimentary pieces is the most logical conclusion for this summers window.
Still, it is fun to be linked to many names again as this is after all the time of year silly season really picks up.
