It was a big match for City skipper Stephanie Houghton who made her 200th appearance for the Blues. Jill Scott returned to the Academy Stadium with Everton after joining them on loan from City.

City dominated the ball for the majority of the first 20 minutes, however, Everton keeper Sandy MacIver was untested.
The first big chance of the game came from a Caroline Weir free-kick from just outside the box. The freekick struck the wall and fell for Samantha Mewis who couldn’t find the back of the net and the ball rolled across the face of the goal.

City continued to see most of the ball and a final chance of the half came when Chloe Kelly dug a ball into Houghton who put the header just wide.
Early into the second half, City had another chance with Lucy Bronze whipping the ball in which found Kelly who controlled the ball well, but her shot was blocked.

City still had most of the possession, Ellen White managed to get in behind the Everton defence, however, her shot was wide. White arguably should have done better there.
Just past 60 minutes Lauren Hemp attempted an overhead kick which was just over the bar. City really deserved the lead, but it still hadn’t come.

With just 15 minutes to go, Everton were starting to find their feet and saw more of the ball in the City box, but the City defence weathered the storm well.

Finally, with 80 minutes on the clock, City had their breakthrough! Hemp played a ball across from the right-wing to Kiera Walsh who shot from the edge of the box into the bottom left corner! 1-0 City!
