Manchester City hadn’t won at Anfield since 2003 and Foden feels that City showed their fearlessness, mettle and determination throughout the match.

The young Foden made this match his coming out party to the world as he played a near perfect match in all aspects. After the match he spoke about City’s mentality and Ilkay Gundogan’s impact.

Let’s dive in-

“We showed our courage from minute one,” he said. “They played a brilliant game and made it difficult for us.

“We did well to play our football and keep going. We kept playing our game and in the end it paid off. Every player wants to play in a big game like this.

“I think it was definitely better in the second half. It’s something to work on to try and start well in every game that we can.”

“We definitely forced the errors,” he reflected. “It’s something we worked on in training to press from the front and you see the rewards in games like today. Everyone worked for each other today.”

“He’s doing okay I suppose, isn’t he? Not doing too bad, scoring a couple of goals here and there!” he said jokingly.

Gundogan’s just such a brilliant footballer and so intelligent. When you play with him he just makes you feel calm, he just slows the game down and sees it in a different way. He’s in the form of his life at the moment.

“You can just see how much he is enjoying it. He’s scoring more goals than he has in previous seasons so hopefully, he can keep that up because it’s important for us at the moment with the lives of Kev”

“I struck it perfect, I’m happy to see it go in and to have helped the team. I enjoy it you know [playing false 9]. I like it, it’s not like you have to stay up front, you can drop in and get involved.

“I try to play there as best as I can and it’s something I need to learn. I enjoyed it, coming in and linking play in the final third.”

“This gives us every chance of going and winning it now. The job isn’t done and there’s still a long way to go. We need to keep doing this and putting the points on the table. Hopefully, we can go on and get it done. It only helps us a lot by winning here.

“When you beat the champions everyone’s confidence goes up, we haven’t won here in a bit so we’re just happy to win.”

City have a real star in Foden and he showed it this weekend.

Let’s hope it continues and leads to titles.
