Manchester City had to earn this victory tonight.
They survived and saw off a hugely challenging and determined West Ham at the Etihad and record a 20th successive win.
With goals from Ruben Dias and John Stones either side of an Antonio equalizer gave City a 2-1 win which extends the lead at the top.
City are now 27 matches unbeaten one short of equaling the Club record of 28.
On to the reaction-
Pep Guardiola Reaction
‘Every person who saw the game - it was really tough, difficult, the opponent is incredibly difficult. Big compliment to West Ham, after 26 fixtures to be in the top four it’s because of a lot of work.’
‘When you have a run of many many victories, you have games like this. I remember Brighton we suffered a lot for 20 minutes, Fulham as well. Games are so different. Teams create problems for us.’
‘We must rest mentally and physically. If not, you cannot sustain it. It’s many games but the big teams have to do it. From tomorrow, we look towards Wolves - in past years we suffered against them.’
‘To win 20 could be the greatest achievement we’ve done. It doesn’t mean we win the title of course, but in winter time in England, every three days a game, covid situation, injuries...winning, winning, winning shows strength mentally.’
‘We want to do it. What we have done so far is an exception. Normally you drop points - draws, defeats - that is normality in football. Three seasons ago, 100 points we were unstoppable, then next season, then last season Liverpool, this one didn’t start good.’
‘“Everyone is so committed, so focused, every player has to play good. I’m surprised, in the toughest year for all of society in the world, the most difficult year, for the weather, the pitches, to be able to do what we have done is incredible.”
