Ilkay Gundogan’s phenomenal goalscoring form continued as Manchester City comfortably beat Tottenham Hotspur to record a 16th consecutive victory in all competitions.
It makes for a sensational month and a half for the boys in sky blue. A win, clean sheet and we move.
On to the reaction-
Pep Guardiola Reaction
“We will see tomorrow,” said the City boss at his post-match press conference.
“He told me it was tight. He is intelligent to say it, but we will see tomorrow.”
“He plays close to the striker and has incredible sense,” added the City boss. “He has this quality.
“I said many times he can play as a false nine and the people laugh at me. Today it was a clear action to win the penalty and then the two goals. He is so good in those terms.
“I am delighted for his performance. He won the player of the month award for January and he still keeps playing this way. In February he could win it again.”
“He is OK,” said the Spaniard. “Yesterday he had a tough training situation.
“We have to take things step by step. As soon as he gets a bit of physical condition and he has the chance to play, he will play.”
“I would say he is able to make this assist for 60, 70 yards [Ederson assist]. [Penalties] For the quality of the shot, Ederson is the best but a penalty is different. I am delighted for Rodri, for the courage to take it.”
“I have to reflect. The Champions League is coming, Everton in the quarter final of the FA Cup - and we don’t have a real specialist to take a penalty, that is the reality.”
“The way they played today at Leicester, they can lose games but of course they can do it. It’s the same Liverpool I met in the last years but in the boxes they are not as clinical as before. But against Leicester they showed they are still there.”
