Following the euphoria of Manchester City’s Champions League win in Belgium, football’s darker side once again reared it’s ugly head as a supporter was injured and is reportedly fighting life in hospital, according to the Manchester Evening News.

63-year-old Guido De Pauw, a member of the Blue Moon Belgium Supporters Club, was reportedly punched in the back of the head as he made his way home from the match in Bruges.

It is believed Mr de Pauw had stopped at a service station when a rival supporter pulled his scarf from his neck. As Mr de Pauw attempted to retrieve the scarf, it s understood he was hit in the back of the head, with his son Jurgen confirming his father was in a bad condition in hospital.

The club issued a statement today, expressing their shock at the attack, and that they are working with Belgian authorities and Greater Manchester Police in relation to the attack.

All at Bitter and Blue send our best wishes to Mr de Pauw and his family, and hope he makes a speedy recovery.
