Manchester City Women’s star Sam Mewis scored a hat-trick as her USA team beat Colombia 4-0 on Monday.

The USA star, along with Rose Lavelle and new signing Abby Dahlkemper missed Sunday’s 7-0 battering of Aston Villa, but Mewis kept up her goalscring prowess with a first half brace, before completing her hat-trick a minute after half time.

Her first came in the fourth minute, when Mewis slotted home a cross from Megan Rapinoe, then headed home Carli Lloyd’s cross on 33 minutes to make it 2-0. Mewis completed her treble a minute after half-time from the penalty spot after Lindsey Horan was brought down in the area.

It was Mewis’ 19th 20th and 21st goals for her country in just 69 appearances and was replaced on 64 minutes by City teammate Lavelle. Sam’s older sister Kristie scored USA’s fourth with five minutes remaining.

New recruit Dahlkemper played the full 90 minutes in the friendly at Orlando, and face the same opposition in another friendly on Saturday.
