We’re back. A new season kicks off Monday and Pep Guardiola spoke prior to his team’s debut match v Wolves. The boss touched on returning, injury updates, Lionel Messi and transfer activity.

Let’s dive in.

Aguero is yet to return to training following the surgery he had on the knee injury suffered against Burnley in June. Pep on injuries-

“No, he still hasn’t made one training session with us,” said Guardiola when asked about the Argentine at his pre-match press conference.

“Riyad came back three or four days ago and is training. Today is the first day Aymeric is back. Mahrez is available for Wolves, Laporte not yet.”

“The feeling is good, as always. It is a joy to work with these players and this club - so the feeling is always good like it was.”

Pep on Ake and Torres-

“We bought him as a centre-back but sometimes he can help us as a full-back,” he added. “Maybe if we get injuries, he can play there.

“So far, it’s really good. What you have to do, all the players and staff, all the people close to them, is help them settle as soon as possible.

“They are two nice people and they are going to help us.”

Pep on not signing Thiago-

“We have enough players in this position,” was the boss’ response as he expressed his satisfaction with the Club’s transfer dealings.

“Since day one I arrived here I am more than satisfied with what I had in the team,” added Pep.

“I know the club does absolutely everything for me, the team, all of us.

“Sometimes it is the players who decide to move. But never before or in the future will I complain about this - I am a lucky person to be in this club.”

Pep Guardiola on Lionel Messi:

“I think I don’t have to explain anything. Leo explained quite well his feelings and I have nothing to add. He is a football player for FC Barcelona - the club I love.”

“I don’t know. It’s a question for Leo Messi. I cannot talk about the intentions for other people.”

Pep Guardiola on Phil Foden:

“He is well. The time I saw him in these three or four days. “He is well, we worked together, he knows he made a mistake!”

Pep Guardiola on the short turnaround between seasons:

“It is what it is. We cannot change that. We have to adapt.”

Pep Guardiola on whether being in the final year of his Man City contract changes anything: “My time is work every day harder or better than the previous seasons and do the best football as possible to win games and make people proud of my team. That is my job.”

“I see the team as always in an incredible mood. It’s a joy to work with them. We have good expectations to do good football and get the results this club deserves. We want to continue the consistency.”

Pep on Wolves-

“Wolves were always strong, even when they were in the Championship. It was always a difficult game but it will not be any more difficult as against Leicester or Leeds away. We know exactly how tough the Premier League is.”

Pep Guardiola on Man City transfer window:

“Since day one, when I arrived here I’m more than satisfied with what I had in the team. I know the club do absolutely everything to do their best, not just for me, but for all of us...”

“What’s going to happen is going to happen. If we stay with the players we have we’ll be happy. Never before and never in the future am I going to complain. I’m lucky to have these players and to be at this club.”

“No. I don’t talk in the media about the transfer window.”

An eventful press conference. We look forward to the season starting Monday.
