Today the club released part two of the annual review/interview of the Chairman with the site, the chairman reflected on a season unprecedented in terms of the many obstacles it presented.
Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak spoke about Pep Guardiola’s contract status, Sergio Aguero’s future and much more.
Let’s dive in-
On Aguero
“We are going to work it out together and it will be very natural wherever that is if its next year or the year after. It will play out in a very comfortable way whatever Sergio decides,” Mubarak said.
“We’ve been very lucky - I think it’s a testament to the type of players we have had over the years, to have players like David Silva, Vincent Kompany, Pablo Zabaleta, Sergio Aguero, that have committed and stuck with the team for many, many years...”
“It’s a testament to these players, their personalities, commitment to Manchester and the club, and I think the relationship we have been able to build between the clubs and these players, between the managers, the whole eco-system...”
“Likewise, with Pep, the conversation will be a very natural one. We have a clear alignment in terms of where we see the future and what we want in terms of success for the club.
On Pep Guardiola’s future
“(on Pep staying ) It’s a very relevant question. Pep and I have a very clear understanding about what is right for the club,” Mubarak said. “We have a clear alignment in terms of where we see the future and what we want in terms of success. It will be a comfortable conversation and it will work out in the best way for Pep, for me and for the club. I’m very comfortable about that.
“We have such an understanding – me and Pep, the ecosystem we have between Txiki [Begiristain, sporting director], Ferran [Soriano, chief executive], the entire club – that this conversation with Pep is a natural conversation. We have the right trust in each other and what’s best will happen.”
On David Silva and Vincent Kompany
“To have a player like David essentially commit 10 years of his life to the club. To have a player like Sergio Aguero to do the same. This is what tells me we have it right. They are part of the DNA of the club now.”
“He [Kompany] left when he felt it was right, the same with David. Sergio’s going to be the same - we’ll work it out together, it’ll be very natural, this year or the year after. It will play out in a comfortable way whatever Sergio decides.”
On the City Football Group model
“We’re going to have hopefully soon another club in the City Football Group. The model works, the strategy is well proven, and it is no longer a question of validation. We’ve proven it works...”
“It is successful and beneficial from a football, sporting, commercial and revenue sense. Many people are starting to follow this path, innovate it, and that is the biggest compliment to us. I’m very confident in the way the evolution has happened.” +
The commitment to City and the city of Manchester is to be commended. The Chairman also realizes Pep and Kun are vital to the future. I would like them to stay, but we know that it is not that easy. What is certain is that there is a plan and this club will succeed long after Pep is gone.
