On Sunday, David Silva called time on his Premier League career after ten years in Manchester. The Spanish midfielder joined the blues at the moment they embarked on a glorious run that has seen them lift four Premier League titles, five League Cups, two FA Cups and four Community Shields. And it’s fair to say that the magician was at the heart of that trophy haul.

To commemorate El Mago, here are some of the best moments of David Silva’s Premier League career.

10 – Blackpool Away.

October 2010 saw the blues at newly promoted Blackpool and announced the arrival of David Silva. Having already teed up Carlos Tevez, the Spaniard received a free kick on the edge of the box, beat one defender, then a second as he weaved his way towards goal, before curling the ball into the net to make it 3-2 to City.

9 – Hull City Away

City were in the hunt for a second Premier League title and their next stop was Hull City. With City down to ten men for 80 minutes of the match, it was the Spanish maestro who orchestrated the win. His thumping goal from outside the penalty area gave City the lead, then his inch perfect pass to Edin Dzeko was finished by the big Bosnian to make it 2-0 and secure a vital three points for the blues.

8 – Watford – Wembley 2019

Who could forget this moment? After missing a glorious chance in the 2011 FA Cup Final, Silva must have thought he wouldn’t get another shot, but in 2019, the Spaniard got his cup final goal.

Taking a header on from Raheem Sterling, Silva fired a left foot shot that flew beyond the keeper and into the goal and set in motion an FA Cup Final rout of epic proportion.

7 – Arsenal Home

In December 2011, the bleus welcomed Arsenal to Manchester, as they looked for the three points to return to the top of the league. After a goalless first half, a shot by Mario Balotelli early in the second half was saved by the Arsenal keeper and El Mago was on hand to bury the rebound, giving City the three points and the lead in the race for the title.

6 – Bournemouth Home

It would turn out to be his final goal at the Etihad Stadium, and Silva made sure it was taken with aplomb. Just six minutes in, the blues won a free kick which Silva thumped with precision around the wall and into the back of the net to put City in front.

5 – Wigan Home

In the days when City could beat Wigan, Silva was at the heart of a City victory that would eventually lead to the title. For the first goal, Silva’s backtracking saw him win the ball in the City half, then play the ball down the left for Carlos Tevez. Silva kept running and collected the Argentine’s return pass. Before setting up Sergio Aguero to put City in front. Silva’s quick feet saw him brought down in the area to give City a penalty, which was then missed by Tevez. Silva was involved in the next goal, with a delightful backheel to Samir Nasri, who then set up Aguero for number two. Silva then produced a moment of pure magic in a home match to set up Aguero’s hat-trick. His quick feet took him past two defenders, before a third crashed into them as Silva skipped away and slid the pass to Aguero to secure a 3-0 win.

4 – QPR Away

Still in 2011 and a visit to Loftus Road saw the blues take a hard-earned three points back to Manchester, but once again it was the magician who produced a moment of magic to get City moving. With the score at 1-1, a cross from Dzeko on the left found the Spaniard inside the box. Silva’s first touch was immaculate, and completely outfoxed two defenders to create some space for himself , and before the defence could react, the ball was in the back of the net and City were 2-1 up. The blues won the match 3-2.

3 – Manchester United Home

After his display at Old Trafford earlier in the season, United will have been fearful of the Spanish midfielder’s influence in a match that would swing the title pendulum in favour of one of the two teams. In the first half, it was Silva’s inch-perfect corner that found the head of Vincent Kompany and the Belgian powered City into the lead and ultimately, the title.

2 – Manchester United Away

The 2011 Old Trafford derby will be forever remembered by City fans everywhere. The blues had won once in Stretford since the 70’s but a Silva inspired City would finally lay that ghost to rest. The blues had just gone 4-1 up thanks to Dzeko’s tap in when El Mago was released into the area. Silva took his time before nutmegging the keeper to make it 5-1.

But the best was yet to come. Moments later, Silva’s amazing pass from the right split the United defence and released Dzeko who made it 6-1 to City

1 – Baby Mateo

We can talk all day about the footballing brilliance of David Silva, but the one outstanding moment of his career came courtesy of his son Mateo. In August 2018, Matteo lined up with his dad before City’s home game against Huddersfield. It was in December that the youngster had been born prematurely and Silva had been given special leave of absence to be in Spain while his son fought a five month battle for life. In January 2019, Silva said Mateo was fighting for his life, but was given the all-clear to go home four months later. Silva marked his son’s first visit to the Etihad with a stunning free-kick to set City on their way to a 6-1 thrashing of the Terriers.
