Manchester City recorded a solid 3-0 win over Arsenal as the Premier League returned after 101 days behind closed doors at the Etihad.
After such a long break and a return in such uneasy circumstances, Walker said the manner of City’s impressive return to action spoke well about the club and its players.
“It’s the unknown for everyone and we had to feel our way into the game,” the right back reflected.
“Getting a goal just before half time from Raheem was key and obviously them then having a man sent off was always going to help.
“The manager said we had done very well at half time. We had four one-on-ones in the first half but fair play to their goalkeeper.”
“In terms of training for me I always prefer playing matches,” Walker added. “We have a shorter break between matches and more games is good.
“I think it’s only right we finish the season and we have the Champions League also to look forward to.
“We have a 2-1 lead over Real Madrid to take into the second leg of the last 16 and then the incentive of a mini tournament so its going to be exciting times.”
Safe to say all the players were happy with the performance. Now the real grind starts with as many games to be played over the coming weeks.
We’ll see how they respond.
