Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan says blues players have to be ready to show they are top players and a top club, if and when the Premier League returns.
Football has been suspended amid the Coronavirus outbreak, and despite planned talks to discuss resuming the season, the Premier League and FA still have to meet the government’s five requirements before a return to competitive action can take place.
“Whatever comes we have to be ready for it,” the German international said on Friday. “It’s an extraordinary situation right now and extraordinary situations need extraordinary solutions. We see ourselves as top players and a top club and this is a chance for us to show that and deal with the situation as well as possible.
“It’s about when everything starts again but it doesn’t start when we are back in training. It has already started, that is how we should see it, so that we can play in all these things and be ready for every competition.”
Having already won the Carabao Cup, City have 10 games remaining in the Premier League but trail leaders Liverpool by 25 points. The blues have an away tie at Newcastle in the FA Cup quarter final and also hold a 2-1 lead over Real Madrid from their Champions League first leg last 16 tie.
It is looking more likely that UEFA will set a date in August for the completion of the Champions League and Europa League, however no date as yet has been set for the resumption of Premier League action.
