Manchester City claim another League Cup!
Goals from Sergio Aguero and Rodri secured a third consecutive Carabao Cup final victory for City as they beat a solid Aston Villa, 2-1 in a nerving contest at Wembley.
Aguero and Rodri both struck in the opening half hour with City in dominant form.
Villa came fighting back with a Mbwanna Samatta’s late first half effort to make for a very interesting and nervy half.
Thanks to a stunning late save from Claudio Bravo, off a header onto a post, City maintained the lead.
Phil Foden produced a magical display, deservedly saw City seal a hat-trick of League Cup wins following triumphs in 2018 and 2019.
On to the reaction-
Pep Guardiola Reaction
“Three times in a row is a big success,” said Pep.
“It’s the consistency, incredible. It was awesome.
“We struggled in the first minutes and the last ones.
“They had two clear chances in the first minutes but we played really well, especially in the second half.
“The game was good. Phil (Foden) was clinical. Big success, our second title of the season with the Community Shield, it’s so nice.
“We’ve won a lot. I tried when we arrive, every game we play we try to win it, every competition we try to win it, and three times in a row, being here and winning is great.”
On Foden- “The way he fought and the way he’s ready to compete, I’m more than pleased with the way he played,” he said.
”He’s so clever in the small spaces. He can be here without a problem and I never doubted that he can do it.
”It was perfect for me and for him to let him play.”
Phil Foden Reaction
“[I found out I would start] the day before, in training, when the manager was working on tactics,” he said.
“I couldn’t wait to play. It was an unbelievable day.
”I have to say fair play to Aston Villa, they gave us a really good game.”
“When I play, every minute counts, so I try and do my best and I’m very proud of my performance today,” he said.
”You look at players like Kevin de Bruyne and David Silva, who are great, so when I get into the team I have to make the most of it.”
