Manchester City put up an impressive comeback in difficult conditions on an incredibly cold evening in Sweden, to give a crucial advantage going into the return leg in Manchester.
Georgia Stanway earned her 50th goal for City as Gareth Taylor’s side fought back from an early deficit to gain advantage in the Champions League Round of 32.
Sam Mewis, who made her European debut, did it with a bang, scoring a goal to turn the game with just under 15 minutes to go, handing the visitors a solid 2-1 advantage to take back to Manchester for the second leg.
On to the reaction-
Gareth Taylor Reaction
“It was a great finish from Georgia. We’ve challenged her - the girls rib her for the amount of shots she has. That was what we were looking for tonight, that kind of finish.
I didn’t want to take her off but we needed to keep 11 on the pitch and she had a yellow card.”
Sam Mewis Reaction
“Yeah, we’re happy to come away from the first leg with a win but we have another game to go. We want to take care of business and get through to next round, so we will prepare for next week.”
“We know we’re capable of more. This team is always striving to do more. Goteborg are a great team but we could have done more in final third; we have more to do. So we will work on that before the next game.”
