Manchester City’s Champions League campaign got off to a solid start with a 3-1 win over Porto at the Etihad.
The visitors took an early lead, but City fought back with a penalty not long after from Sergio Aguero and second-half strikes from Ilkay Gundogan and Ferran Torres completing what, ultimately, was a comfortable win.
On to the reaction-
Pep Guardiola Reaction
‘I’m happy with all the game. We knew how tough it would be. Alongside Benfica they are the best team in Portugal. They played so defensively with five at the back, we had to patient. After the goal from Sergio in the second half we played really well.’
‘We didn’t conceded counter attacks or set pieces where they are so strong. We didn’t allow them to run, where they are dangerous. A good start for us.’
“It was an incredible combination from Phil and Ferran,” said the boss.
“Ferran has an incredible sense of goal. The most satisfying thing was the way they came in. Always the people who come from the bench are so important.
“We did a perfect performance. It was an incredible performance from us against a really tough team. It is nice to win games suffering against a really good team. I am so pleased with the last two games. Short recovery and then we go to London (to play West Ham).”
