Manchester City’s terrific first half performance was the game Pep wanted as City took a 3-1 victory over Manchester United that puts City in commanding position after the first leg of Carabao Cup semi-final.
Pep Guardiola’s side took down the hosts quickly in a sublime opening 45 minutes in which Bernardo Silva scored with a phenomenal strike and set one up for Riyad Mahrez, before Kevin De Bruyne forced Andreas Pereira to concede an own goal.
It became a more even contest after the break and Marcus Rashford’s breakaway goal reduced the deficit with about 20 mins which will gives some hope for Ole’s men.
A win adn we move to second leg.
And on to the reaction-
Pep Guardiola Reaction
“The first minutes were tight but then we had an outstanding goal and we played really good,” he said.
“We played a really good game with a lot of passes from behind.
“In the second half they changed their shape with the diamond, and we struggled to keep the ball a bit more, but it is a good result.
“We knew it was difficult to control Rashford as they are so fast and that was our target today. In the last game we could not control when we lost the ball and tonight we did it better.
“In general, it was an incredible performance and just a fantastic result for us. Tonight we can be more than satisfied to come here to Old Trafford and win.”
“It is not over as it’s United and we saw last season, at PSG for example, what they can do,” he added.
“We have one more game and we’ll see what happens.
“It’s a good result, but hopefully with our fans we can make a good game and reach the final again.”
Bernardo Silva Reaction
“The first 45 minutes was very good and we could have gone into half time winning four or 5-0 because we missed a few chances,”
“The second half was very hard for us – they started pressing higher and tried to control the game and we tired towards the end, but yeah, I think overall it was a good performance.”
“I enjoyed the role because we won and particularly because it worked,” he said.
“Pep wanted more men in the middle and that’s why he put me there and happily things went our way.
“It’s never easy to come here against one of the best sides in England and Europe and win 3-1 but we did it.
“We were disappointed to lose against United last month because it is not normal for us to lose at home and I hope this makes up for it to our fans.”
