Preview

Holders Manchester City make the short journey to Old Trafford to face old rivals Manchester United in a battle to take the upper hand and put one foot into the final at Wembley.

The two teams had mixed results over the FA Cup weekend, with the blues cruising past Port Vale, while United struggled to make an impression in their tie against Wolves.

United Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has claimed City have raised the bar and it is ‘something to aim for’ ahead of the tie. “I admire Pep,” said Solskjaer. “They’ve raised the bar so much it’s something to aim for. They’re back winning games and confident, but form goes out of the window in a derby.”

City lost to the reds in last month’s Premier League derby at Etihad Stadium, but also lost out to United ten years at this stage, so will be looking for some measure of revenge for that defeat.

Team News

United have doubts over midfielder Jesse Lingard, forward Anthony Martial, and left-back Luke Shaw, wall of whom missed United’s goalless draw at Wolves, and central defender Harry Maguire, who injured a foot in that game, until the last minute to prove their fitness.

City rested a number of their key players on Saturday, and may bring back Raheem Sterling, Kevin de Bruyne, Fernandinho and Rodri for the match at Old Trafford, however manager Pep Guardiola has hinted that he may rest a few players for the cup tie. Defender Nicolas Otamendi is again available after injury

Prediction

City have a very good recent record at Old Trafford, but lost last time out in the League Cup and may play it safe in order to get the reds back to Etihad Stadium.
