Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has again stated that the future of German winger Leroy Sane is out of City’s hands. The winger, who has been out of action since being injured in the Charity Shield win at Wembley in August, has been continually linked with a move to Bayern Munich.

Sane’s contract is due to expire in the summer of 2021, and is still to sign a new contract at City, which has fuelled speculation that he will be on his way back to Germany at some point. Speaking at his press conference ahead of City’s match at Aston Villa, Guardiola said “It’s a question for Leroy, his agents and the club. I’m not involved in that. I have no doubts about him and his quality but each one has his own family, desires, dreams and, above that, I cannot do anything else.”

The winger, signed from Schalke for £37m in 2016, recently returned to training following his injury and no doubt the speculation from the German giants will rise again. However, Guardiola is focussed on the Germany international returning to help boost City’s chances of silverware this season.

“What I want is for him to come back fit. His knee looks really good and after that, honestly, it’s not of my business. It’s not in my hands. What’s important now is that he has to recover well and after that he knows what we think of him, that we believe in him. I was the guy who pushed the club and convinced him to come here even though he didn’t play regularly for Schalke.

“Three years ago is different to right now. I’m not the same guy I was when I arrived here and the players are the same. They have their dreams and after the dreams are accomplished it needs another thing. I don’t know.”
