Manchester City recorded their biggest Premier League win ever as Watford were demolished 8-0 at the Etihad. It was also the third ever biggest defeat in the Premier League.
The hornets were shell shocked early in an incredible opening 18 minutes during which the treble winners scored five times.
Three more were added after the break, with Bernardo Silva earning his first hat-trick for the Blues and Kevin De Bruyne’s late golazo was arguably the best of the bunch on a massively enjoyable day at the Etihad and one that won’t be forgotten soon.
Full list of goal scorers:
Silva 1’
Agüero 7’ (pen)
Mahrez 12’
Bernardo 15’, 48’, 60’
Otamendi 18’
De Bruyne 85’
On to the reaction:
Pep Guardiola Reaction
“We were ruthless in terms of five shots, five goals - sometimes we have 20 and cannot score!”
“After our Champions League game, a huge trip, we had no time to prepare. It was a lovely day for us all - for the City fans, the sunshine and lots of goals.”
“You play for the spectators.”
“ I would have not liked to see my team in the second half play thinking they didn’t have to run much because they were 5-0 up. “
“That is a lack of respect. We played seriously - we didn’t do anything special. That is the best way to play.”
PEP on Eric Garcia: “On Tuesday he will play against Preston. Incredibly clear guy, and he’s able to lead the line. He’s so clever. Played incredible attention of that and played well. He’s going to play a lot of minutes.””
“He (
@benmendy23) is well but after two years playing only a few minutes, it was enough (time on the pitch).”“
@angel_tasende69 is an incredible nice guy, and is training well - he deserved to play. I saw many good things in him.”
Bernardo Silva Reaction
“I’m going to get all the players to sign my ball and then I’ll take it home to Portugal and keep it in a special place,” he said.
”We were unbelievable in the first 30 minutes, scored lots of goals and had control. After the Norwich defeat, it was great to give our fans the result and the performance.
”We aimed to keep it going in the second half. We didn’t want them to hurt us or score past us.
”Football is a hard game - I’ve won 8-0 today but I’ve lost plenty of times by five or four goals. You just have to keep going so I wished the Watford players well.
”It was a great performance, 8-0 says everything. It’s very good to get the three points after defeat at Norwich and I’m very happy with my first hat-trick of my career. My first match ball at home.”
“Kevin De Bruyne is a fantastic player,” he said. “Everyone knows how good he is when he is fit.
“When he is playing like today he is one of the best players in the Premier League.
“All teams have good and bad moments, the way you react to the bad is the most important thing. Once again this team showed we want to fight for the Premier League and all the titles.”’
