Manchester City’s announcement of South Korea striker Lee Geum-Min from Gyeongju KHNP has sparked frustration amongst some supporters who have been waiting for news on a major men’s signing.
The 25-year-old played for South Korea in this summer’s World Cup, where they lost all three of their group games, and has scored 16 goals in 54 appearances since making her senior debut for her country.
The blues have lost several key players during the summer, so the signing of Lee will be a welcome boost to the team. Manager Nick Cushing said “Previously, we’ve tended to recruit English or European players, but we wanted an attacking player who would bring us some real attacking prowess and a bit of flair.”
But the news of Lee’s signing didn’t go down too well with some supporters, who were eagerly awaiting news of Portuguese right back Joao Cancelo from Juventus. The defender underwent a medical in Manchester today ahead of his £27m plus Danilo move, but the club are having to wait to announce the signing until Danilo’s transfer is completed in Turin, with some tweeting the club demanding they announce the defender immediately.
And Benjamin Mendy couldn’t resist having a bit of a laugh by tweeting a welcome to Lee Manchester, before asking if she had seen a Portuguese right back in the corridors!
While Cancelo’s announcement is imminent, we bid a warm Manchester welcome to Lee, and hope she will form a decent strike partnership with City’s other new signing, World Cup star Ellen White.
