Football is back!!
The Premier League is around the corner and we have a match to discuss. It is of course time for the Community Shield this Sunday, v Liverpool. A bitter title race saw these two squads duke it out all of last season for the championship and in the end saw City win it all for a second time. Now, with the new season a foot we take a look at three pressing questions Pep Guardiola must answer.
Let’s dive in.
1 Who starts?
After a long offseason that saw many players off with national teams like Sergio Aguero, and Gabriel Jesus among others, Pep would be wise to consider a mixed team of starters and reserves. If the report that John Stones can’t go is true, that presents another problem. Saying that I think this is who would start Sunday:
Ederson
Walker, Laporte, Otamendi, Zinchenko
Bernardo Silva, Rodri David Silva,
Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and Leroy Sane
2 How Does Pep Line Them Up Tactically?
Yes, given my predictions a 4-3-3 would be logical ad be my preferred one to start the season. However, Pep might see it differently. He has an abundancy of options. He could opt for a three man back and two fullbacks plus a midfield of Bernardo, Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri. With two strikers in Aguero and Jesus.
He could do a straight 4-4-2. with Rodri and Dave Silva in the center with Sane and Sterling/Mahrez wide and the Jesus and Aguero up front.
Lastly a more traditional 4-2-3-1 with Rodri and Fernandinho/Gundogan playing under neath a line of Sane/Bernardo, KDB/Bernardo, Sterling/Mahrez and either Aguero or Jesus as a lone striker.
The options are all so fantastic. Pep will surely come up with something good.
3 Who captains the side?
With Vincent Kompany gone, I think the captaincy falls to David Silva. Even with the knowledge that Sergio Aguero would be a worthy option as well, I can’t help but see Bald Dave wearing the captain’s armband.
Finally, Manchester City’s season will be underway and I CANNOT wait!
