Manchester City’s young midfielder Douglas Luiz has completed a £15m move to Premier League new boys Aston Villa.

Luiz, who never made an appearance for the senior side, joins the Birmingham club after spending the past two seasons on loan at Girona. Luiz was denied a work permit last season and spent a second term on loan at the Spanish side.

It represents a good bit of business for the blues, who have reportedly inserted a buy-back clause into the deal, which is again subject to a work permit. However, it is seen in some quarters as another youngster who has been allowed to leave the City academy.

“Douglas is an extremely talented young player with an outstanding pedigree who I am sure will fit nicely into our style and system of play,” said Villa boss Dean Smith following the announcement. Luiz was named player of the tournament at the Toulon Tournament in June, which his native Brazil Under 21’s won.
