Algeria Maintain Their Perfect Record in Group C

After a successful outing on Matchday 1, Riyad Mahrez and Algeria took on Senegal on Matchday 2 in the Africa Cup of Nations’ Group C. Mahrez started the match and captained his side against a difficult Senegalese opponent.

Despite attempts from both sides, neither team was able to find a breakthrough in the first half. It would end goalless, and both teams used the break as an opportunity to regroup.

By the start of the second half, Algeria were ahead. The Desert Foxes found their goal, courtesy of Mohamed Youcef Belaili. Following their early goal, the Algerian defence was met with a series of Senegalese attacks. Despite an on slot of Senegalese attempts on goal, the Lions of Teranga were unable to find an equalising goal. held their own. By full time, the Algerians won the match 1-0.

The victory sees Algeria sit firmly at the top of Group C, three points above second-placed Senegal. More important, the result means Algeria have progressed to the competition’s knockout stages.

Algeria will play their final game of the group stage against Tanzania on 1 July.
