Whilst Manchester City’s European contingency is away on holiday, and as the South American contingency marched onto the 2019 Copa América knockout stages, the Sky Blues’ final international representative will make a stand at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
24 men’s national football teams from Africa will compete against one another in this year’s tournament. Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez will captain his native Algeria, where the Desert Foxes were placed in Group C with Senegal, Kenya and Tanzania.
Algeria faced Kenya in their opening match of the tournament. Mahrez scored in the match and captained his side to a 2-0 victory against the Harambee Stars.
The Desert Foxes will now take on Senegal on Matchday 2 in Group C on 27 June. Will Mahrez and the Desert Foxes extend their winning run on Matchday 2?
