It would be the close season without transfer speculation. City are expected to invest in the team over the coming months, with Vincent Kompany leaving the club and the blues still looking for a long term replacement for Fernandinho. So who have the blues been linked with so far?
The Manchester Evening News have claimed the blues have three potential targets to eventually replace Ferna in that defensive midfield role. Number one target is Atletico Madrid’s Rodri. The 22 year old has a reported release fee of 70m Euros, but City are looking to get the midfielder at a lower price.
If that fails, then the MEN claims their next target would by either Lyon’s Tanguy Ndombele or Real Madrid’s Marco Llorent. Ndombele is a reported target for Spurs, while it is unlikely Madrid will accept any offer from City for Llorent, after heavily criticising the blues in relation to FFP recently. If they were to accept a bid from the blues, it would be hypocrisy at the highest level.
Ilkay Gundogan is reported to be staying at City at least for another season, according to The Mail. The German international has one year left on his contract and could leave for free next summer if a deal is not struck. However, it has been reported that the midfielder wants to remain with the blues, and a deal may yet be struck to tie him down to a longer contract.
Another star who has one year left on his contract is Spanish midfielder David Silva. Merlin signed for the blues in 2010 and has been an instrumental figure in City’s success over the last nine years, and is reported to want to see the last year of his contract out at The Etihad. Silva has been linked with a move to the Japanese J League this summer.
Who would you like to see arrive at City? Should the blues cash in on Gundogan now? Let us know your thoughts.
