Manchester City extended their Premier League win streak to 13 after a thrilling, tense and nervy 1-0 victory over Leicester. Vincent Kompany’s booming long-range goal was enough to put City within one win of the Premier League title.
The captain broke down a dangerous and very game Leicester with a pin point shot 73 minutes in to put the Blues within distance of defending the crown won last season.
On to the reaction:
Pep Guardiola Reaction
“We celebrate on the pitch today, it was nice to win last game at home. The last two or three months the support’s been incredible.
”Leicester are so dangerous. They wanted to play but I not expect to defend so deep.
”Of course we are so happy because no win would be almost impossible to win title. Players are mature and we have one more game.
Will be tough in Brighton. They take result at arsenal. We play few weeks ago against them (in the FA Cup semi-final) and it was tough. They play for pride but it’s in our hands. We were 7 points behind but we never give up.
”We are still there and we win 13 games in a row.”
“It was an Incredible performance. Incredible. I am so sorry but it was so good,” Guardiola added.
”We didn’t concede one corner or one shot on target. Sometimes you need a goal; like today. It was outstanding the way we played the second half, the character and the personality.
“Knowing how difficult it is and to handle the emotions. Knowing if we do not win, we cannot be champions. We have pressure because it is in our hands. We deserve to be in that position we have one more game and we will try.”
“I said before the game ‘no shoot Vinny’,” Pep joked. “He was right to not follow my thoughts. Incredible. The desire to win every game.
“There are important players in that club, it is more than one century history this club, not a lot of titles in trophy cabinet but a lot of players help us to be where we are right now.
“When fit Vinny is an incredible player. He is real defender with personality and leader happy for him for the club and everybody.”
Vincent Kompany Reaction
“I actually score a lot like that in training,” smiled the captain.
”I got up this morning and said ‘I’m going to do something special today’ - I did the same for the previous five games and nothing happened!
”But today it did and it was a special moment because Leicester made it very tough.”
