German champions Bayern Munich have cast their eyes towards Manchester City’ Leroy Sane, and hope to persuade the winger to return to Germany.

The Bundesliga champions, who will secure a league and cup double if they beat RB Leipzig in the German cup final this weekend, will see both Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery leave the club this summer, and have reportedly made Sane a number one priority signing.

And club chairman, German legend Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, has stated that the club will ‘try to sign,’ Sane this summer, but couldn’t promise they will succeed.

The blues signed Sane from Schalke three years ago and the winger was named PFA Young Player of the Year last season. The youngster, who cost £37m, has another two years left on his contract, and Rummenigge claims Bayern considered signing him before the blues lured him to England.

“We already had the idea when he was still with Schalke, but at that time we did not have a guaranteed regular place for him. Robben and Ribery were top of the top three years ago.”

Bayern won the Bundesliga title ahead of Borussia Dortmund by just two points, while Sane’s former club Schalke avoided relegation by 12 points, finishing 14th in an 18 team league.

Sane has made 89 Premier League appearances for the blues, scoring 25 goals and providing 28 assists in his time in Manchester.
