Manchester City’s senior men’s team competed in a series of entertaining matches over the international break. Overall, the Blues performed well.
Kyle Walker and Raheem Sterling saw England score ten goals as they won their oepning two Euro 2020 qualifying matches. Sterling scored four goals, assisted one and won a penalty. The Three Lions now sit at the top of Group A.
Elsewhere in Group A, Arijanet Muric and Kosovo earned their first competitive point in a qualifying match as the Dardanians held Bulgaria to a 1-1 draw.
Meanwhile, Bernardo Silva’s Portugal and Oleksandr Zinchenko’s Ukraine competed in an entertaining 0-0 draw. The Navigators were then held to another draw against Serbia whilst the Zbirna overcame Luxembourg. The results mean Ukraine currently sit at the top of Group B, three points above Portugal. This will give Zinchenko bragging rights over his City teammate.
Finally, Leroy Sané and İlkay Gündoğan were instrumental in Germany’s 2-3 victory in the Netherlands in Qualification Group C.
Outside of Europe, Riyad Mahrez’s Algeria qualified for the African Cup of Nations. Their successful campaign means the Desert Foxes will appear in their fourth consecutive African Cup of Nations. The finals will be held from June to July in 2019.
Finally, Danilo, Ederson and Gabriel Jesus saw their native Brazil draw Panama and defeat the Czech Republic in a series of international friendlies.
The large contingency of City players will now return to Manchester, where they will prepare for their next English Premier League match. The Blues are back on Saturday, where they will travel to Fulham on EPL Matchday 31.
