Report: Manchester City Now Chase Thomas Partey

Could the Ghanian be Ferna’s replacement?

Another week, another transfer rumor. This time courtesy of ESPNFC, who say it is now Thomas Partey who could be on his way to the Etihad. The report states that,

“Reported Arsenal and Manchester City target Thomas Partey is excited by the idea of playing in the Premier League, a source close to the Atletico Madrid midfielder has told ESPN FC.”

With another Atletico Madrid player being reported to be in City’s sights in Saul, the idea of Pep Guardiola trying to get a replacement for Fernandinho grows true. Other reports in Spain peg Atletico for a total overhaul of about half the squad which means plenty of rumors are afoot.

In Partey, City could get a dynamic midfielder with a great defensive mind who is taller than Ferna. While the height might not seem important, under Pep’s system winning 50/50 balls is crucially important and Ferna does well, but I’d suspect Partey could be better. Being a great tackler also helps and Partey leads the way in La Liga.

For Atletico, Partey has won a starting position there and his presence was sorely missed in the second leg of the draw with Juventus, that saw Atletico crash out of the Champions League.

We will see how the Summer window goes, but it’s safe to say City will make more than one move this time.
