Manchester City women scored five goals for the second successive week as the blues thrashed Bristol City 5-0 at the Stoke Gifford Stadium.

Goals from Tessa Wullaert, Ellen White and a brace by Pauline Bremer either side of a goal by Caroline Weir meant City kept up the pressure on league leaders Chelsea, who beat Birmingham City 6-0 this afternoon.

The blues hammered West Ham last weekend by the same scoreline, meaning yet another clean sheet for young keeper Ellie Roebuck and ensured the Bristol side remained winless so far this season.

The blues were in control during the first half and took the lead when Belgian striker Wullaert controlled Janine Beckie’s cross and slotted home the only goal of the first half to give City the lead.

The home side came more into the match in the second half and Ebony Salmon came close to equalising in the second half, only to be denied by the young star Roebuck, who kept her clean sheet record intact.

England striker White scored again for the blues following Keira Walsh’s through ball on 65 minutes. That goal ended Bristol’s resistance and the floodgates opened as the blues ran riot again. Bremer scored her first with six minutes remaining, which was followed by Weir’s strike just three minutes later, while Bremer completed the rout in injury time.

It was a comfortable afternoon for the girls in blue, who remained one point behind unbeaten leaders Chelsea, while staying ahead of champions Arsenal on goal difference.

Final Score: Bristol Women 0-5 Manchester City Women
