Manchester City take on Chelsea on Saturday afternoon, eager to get back to winning ways after their 3-1 defeat at Anfield before the international break.

The blues dropped to fourth in the league following that defeat, as Leicester and Chelsea leapfrogged above the blues by one point to throw their title challenge into the ring. The blues won the corresponding fixture 6-0 last season on their way to a fourth Premier League title, but they face a resurgent Chelsea side who have won their last six Premier League games.

City will welcome back former blue Frank Lampard, who was installed as manager at Stamford Bridge in the summer after taking Derby County to the bring of the Premier League.

The blues are at the lowest position in the Premier League for 14 months and a fourth defeat of the season could see them 12 points behind leaders Liverpool by the end of the weekend. It is true that teams have recovered from positions such as this, but given City’s erratic form, it may be difficult even for the most hardened of fans to see a way back.

What Do The Bosses Say?

Pep Guardiola says Chelsea have been an incredible top team, and have played some good football from the beginning of this season. “Frank Lampard is consistent with his ideas and the results are there. I’m happy for him,” said Guardiola.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard says he still sees City as the same strength. “They’ve had their injury problems but they are a great team and still as big a threat as they always have been. Anyone can go to Manchester City, play at their best and still lose so I won’t be making huge judgements win or lose tomorrow,” Lampard said

Team News

City have been handed an injury boost with goalkeeper Ederson returning to the team after missing the defeat at Liverpool. Bernardo Silva is suspended following the FA Charge over his tweet to Benjamin Mendy, and the blues have no injury worries from the recent internationals.

Chelsea will be without Callum Hudson-Odoi due to a hamstring injury, but Jorginho may return after suspension. Christian Pulisic could also return following injury

One To Watch

Tammy Abraham has been a regular for Lampard’s side this season and has been in fine form. City’s defence will have their work cut out if they are to stop him on Saturday.

Prediction

As a realist, I just cannot see the blues recreating the 6-0 beating they dished out to Chelsea last season, but I can still see City winning. They will have something to prove after the Liverpool defeat and think we’ll edge this one.
