Manchester City came from behind to score twice late on to beat a very game Southampton.
The Saints, thrashed 9-0 at home by Leicester in their last league game, led until the 70th minute when Sergio Aguero finally evened things up.
In the relentless pressure that followed, Kyle Walker scored a dramatic late winner to seal three massive points for the Cityzens.
A win and we move. On to the reaction:
Pep Guardiola Reaction
“We did everything,” he said.
“It was so difficult to attack when they defend with 11 players. We did everything we could and in the end our intensity and our players paid off. We made a good comeback.
“We were so patient. We were aggressive. The rhythm was high from the first minute. Big compliments to the team it was not easy and we did it.”
“They defended with 11 players,” added Guardiola.
“They didn’t allow you to go inside. They allowed you to go outside. There wasn’t any space. [Danny] Ings and [Nathan] Redmond defended the 18-yard box.
“We needed people in the box. It was almost impossible. They were so close.
“The difference between the back five was so close. There was no space. We made the space big because we had the wingers and full-backs wide.
“We were patient, but we were constant. That’s why we made the comeback.”
“Our problem for these two games was to live with a team who had suffered,” said Guardiola. “I knew they would battle for the duels, defend the corners, wait for set-pieces, wait for one counter attack.
“We knew it and it was difficult, but even with that we had incredibly good momentum in the first-half and in the second-half we were so intense and so aggressive and that is why we did it.”
Angelino Reaction
“We didn’t give up,” he reflected. “We are a strong team with a strong attitude and we showed it.
“We had a tough game – they gave us a hard time, trying to lose time. It worked quite well.
“We fought until the end and got the win. We know we’ve got quality players up top and we knew the chances would come – top players will finish their chances.
“Kyle had a really good game – he got an assist and a goal: what more can you ask for? It was a strong game from everyone.
“We have to win – we want to win every game,” he stated. “That’s our aim and that’s what we need.
“It’s a massive week. We focus now on the Champions League – the first game we have next, which we also have to win.
“Then we focus on the next game – not the ones far ahead.”
