Manchester City welcome Southampton to the Etihad Stadium as they continue their defence of their Carabao Cup.

The blues are fresh from their 3-0 home victory over Aston Villa and face a Southampton side still smarting from the 9-0 home hammering by Leicester City on Friday evening. City have won the trophy in successive seasons and are looking to secure another quarter final appearance at the expense of the Saints.

Manager Pep Guardiola has said he expects a response from Southampton after Friday’s mauling and the visitors will be hoping City’s injury woes will give them a much-needed boost.

Team News

City have added Oleksandr Zinchenko and Rodri to their ever-growing injury list. Fernandinho will miss the match after being sent off against Villa, while Eric Garcia and Taylor Harwood-Bellis could again start in the centre of defence as they did at Preston in the last round.

Ryan Bertrand is suspended for West Ham after being sent off against Leicester, while full-back Cedric Soares and winger Moussa Djenepo are unlikely to feature due to injury.

Prediction:

While City will no doubt field some of their youngsters, it will be expected of Guardiola to field a strong attacking side, which I think will still be too strong for the confidence-lacking Saints.
