Manchester City gave us a performance for the ages to pull back within four points of leaders Liverpool following a great 2-1 win at the Etihad.

A bombing first half-strike from Sergio Aguero set the centurions on their way, before Roberto Firmino equaled midway through the second period. It was however, Leroy Sane who had the final say with a 73’ minute winner to finish off a game that lived up to its massive hype.

The support at the match was phenomenal as well with so many loud and vocal City fans that it must have been amazing to play there.

On to the reaction-

Pep Guardiola Reaction

“The game was a real game for both sides. We beat an incredible team. We were outstanding from the first minute. We are happy for this victory to reduce the gap. Everything is open.”

“Liverpool are still top and it’s enough points to become winners, but at the same time it’s good time for me to congratulate these incredible players what they’ve done over the past 16 months.

“(City) showed everyone how good they are against and incredible team.

“Both teams played to win and although it’s not a final… it was a final to us! Winning today - the Premier League is eveyone’s tie again.

“But in three days we’ve got another big test in FA Cup.”

Fernandinho Reaction

“We had a chance and opportunity to show our quality after a couple of bad results,” he said.

”We’re back on track and on winning ways.

”The team has been playing good games and this is the most important for us. If you play bad you can win the games, but you have to play good and get the three points.

”It was a nice game for everybody and of course for the fans. They were so excited, and I am happy for them.

”I think all the big games are like this [tense]. You cannot blink. You get punished, all the games are high tension, so you have to be careful all the time and everyone who was involved had the same feeling, the same sensation.

”We had to play our football and try to defend as well as we did, not concede goals.”

Vincent Kompany Reaction

“I’m not worried about the result - I’m buzzing with the tremendous performance. We went toe to toe with a very physical aggressive team and we matched them,” Kompany said after the game.

“The result is the result and it’s still in Liverpool’s hands. It (the win) came from our guts, and a desire you can’t describe. The 12th man is more than the fans - it’s something from within and we are a better team when we play with emotions.”
