Manchester City Face Potential Banana Skin In FA Cup Fifth Round

Blues will travel to Boro Or Newport

The FA Cup

The draw for the fifth round of the FA Cup has been made, and after last season’s loss to Wigan at the same stage, the bleus will be very wary of their potential opponents that stand in their way of reaching the quarter final.

City’s reward for thumping Burnley 5-0 is a trip to either Middlesbrough or surprise package Newport in the fifth found. League Two Newport claimed a replay with a last minute equaliser on Saturday to deny Boro a place in the last sixteen after the Teeside club had taken the lead in the 51st minute.

Newport cause an upset when they disposed of Premier League side Leicester City 2-1, while Boro beat Peterborough United 5-0 in the third round. And City have not too fond memories of Middlesbrough as the two teams met at Etihad Stadium in 2015 when Boro beat the Premier League champions 2-0.

The match is to be played on the weekend of 16th February in a tough month that sees them face both Arsenal and Chelsea at home, with a trip to Everton sandwiched in between. The blues also face Schalke in the Champions League four days after the FA Cup fifth round, and contest the League Cup final with Chelsea just four days later. City then round off the month with a trip to West Ham three days later.
