Manchester City: Sole City Player, John Stones, plays in England Game

In a defeat to Spain, 2-1, Stones plays well at defensive midfield.

England fell at the hands of Spain in the UEFA Nations League, 2-1. On this international break which had the debut of the Nations League, England had a fair game, but could not get a result with a fairly new look Spain squad. Spain earned their first win at Wembley since 1982!

Maybe surprisingly, there was little City representation in the starting 11’s at Wembley. Raheem Sterling had pulled out from the squad with a back injury and Kyle Walker and Fabian Delph were unused substitutes.

As for Spain, David Silva had also just recently announced his retirement from international football.

City’s sole representative was Stones who had an impressive cameo performance in the defensive midfield role caused a ruckus on social media. Including what I have always thought of him as a criminally underrated footballer both at City and before at Everton.

What do you think of Stones? Best at defender or midfielder?
