The blues travel to South Wales to take on Cardiff, eager to make up for the 2-1 home defeat to Lyon in the Champions League. But who do our rivals play? How will they get on, and most importantly, will I get a spot-on prediction this week?
The last time City faced Cardiff in the league, it ended in a 3-2 defeat for Manuel Pellegrini’s men however, the last league game before that took place on 22nd September 1984 at Ninian Park, with the blues winning 3-0. Therefore, I’m going for the same result today
Prediction – Cardiff 0-3 City
Fulham v Watford
Fulham lost 3-0 at City last week, and but for some better finishing, it could have been much more. Watford also lost at home to Manchester United to end their 100% start to the season and I think Fulham will inflict another defeat on the Hornets.
Prediction: Fulham 1-0 Watford
Burnley v Bournemouth
Bournemouth recorded an impressive 4-2 win over Leicester to move into fifth in the league, while Burnley continued to suffer the effects of European football, losing 1-0 at newly promoted Wolves. The Clarets were a surprise package last season, but go into this fixture rooted to the bottom of the table, and I can’t see them improving their position.
Prediction: Burnley 1-2 Bournemouth
Palace pulled off a 1-0 win at Huddersfield last weekend, which was their first win since the opening day of the season, and was enough to push them into 12th place. Newcastle meanwhile, suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Arsenal and still await their first win of the season. Palace will be favourites for the win, but I think Newcastle will stop them.
Prediction: Crystal Palace 1-1 Newcastle
Leicester v Huddersfield
Both teams lost their respective fixtures last weekend and both will be eager to make up for those losses. It’s going to be a tough game for the Yorkshire team as the Terriers are still looking for their first win of the season. They have also only scored two goals and conceded eleven so far, while Leicester have scored eight and conceded nine. I can’t see anything but a Leicester win in this match.
Prediction: Leicester 3-0 Huddersfield
Liverpool have a 100% record so far, and face a Southampton side that threw away a two goal lead at home to Brighton on Monday. Much is being made of Liverpool’s start to the season, but it must be remembered that we are only five games in. Southampton sit in 13th place, having won just one and lost two of their first five matches, and are not expected to take anything from this match. However, Liverpool have in the past been notorious for dropping points in matches they are expected to win and I have a feeling this will be one of those matches.
Prediction: Liverpool 0-0 Southampton
Manchester United v Wolves
Both teams won last weekend and this will be a big test for the visitors. They held their own against City before the international break and beat Burnley in their last match. United ended Watford’s 100% record at Vicarage Road and also easily disposed of Swiss side Young Boys in the Champions League. However, I can’t put United down to win, so I’m going for a draw.
Prediction: Manchester United 2-2 Wolves
Brighton v Spurs
Brighton showed tremendous spirit to come back and deny Southampton three points on Monday, but their only win was at home to Manchester United. Last weekend against Liverpool, Spurs looked a shadow of the side that put three past United at Old Trafford and it remains to be seen which team turns up at Brighton. Spurs will still be smarting at Brighton can take advantage.
Prediction: Brighton 1-0 Spurs
West Ham v Chelsea
Manuel Pellegrini’s Hammers pulled of a 3-1 win at Everton last week to record their first victory of the season and move out of the relegation zone. It’s another tough match for the Hammers, who have already faced Liverpool and Arsenal, but have lost both of their home games so far. Chelsea have a 100% record and are fully expected to continue that run. Obviously, we’ll be rooting for the Hammers, and I think (hope) they can stop Chelsea.
Prediction: West Ham 1-1 Chelsea
Arsenal v Everton
Arsenal are finally starting to find their stride under new boss Unai Emery, and after an opening two defeats, the Gunners have won three on the bounce and now sit in seventh place in the league. Everton suffered a home defeat to bottom club West Ham (3-1) and sit three points behind the Gunners. With home advantage, Arsenal will be favourites for the win and I can’t see Everton getting anything out of this game.
Prediction: Arsenal 2-0 Everton
How did I do last week?
Result Prediction:
Spurs v Liverpool 1-2 2-1 Right result, just to the wrong team
Chelsea v Cardiff 4-1 4-0 So close…but no cigar
Watford v Man Utd 1-2 1-0 It was more in hope than anything
Bournemouth v Leicester 4-2 3-3 At least I predicted 6 goals…
Newcastle v Arsenal 1-2 1-1 Again very close. If only…
Wolves v Burnley 1-0 2-0 Come on Wolves, you could have score another
Huddersfield v Crystal Palace 0-1 0-0 Close again for the fourth time
Everton v West Ham 1-3 3-0 Didn’t give the Hammers enough credit for this one
Southampton v Brighton 2-2 1-1 Right result, they just scored too many goals
Maybe I’ll do better this week, we shall see
