Pep Guardiola confirmed that Manchester City are trying to make one more signing before the transfer window closes. And Ideally wants it to be a central midfielder.

After City’s convincing win over Chelsea at Wembley to win the Community Shield, Guardiola said he would like one more player with similar traits to defensive stalwart, Fernandinho.

“I don’t know (about new signings), we are trying,” Pep told the media after the win. “We would like to find maybe one more because we don’t have players to substitute Fernandinho, but if he doesn’t come then we will stay as we are.

In the same press conference he expressed that if no replacement is found, John Stones could be the man tasked in the midfield. Stones played well in the Chelsea game dispossessing a Chelsea player to start the attack that would end in a goal for City.

There has been a ton of names linked with City, but Goal journalist who covers Manchester City has said in a tweet-

If that’s the case one has to conclude that any deal would be done quietly and made official just before deadline day. I’ve made the case to stick with the academy, but if Pep feels he needs a guy with more experience there then he should get who he thinks is best fitted for his style. Some new names that have been heard on the wire are Mario Lemina from Southampton and Hector Herrera from FC Porto. Both those players and any really will not come cheap and City have been mindful of wise spending lately so we’ll see how it develops.

Who do you want at City? Will we get a player before the window closes? Let us know in the comments below.
